Bio

Yara Basis is an artist from Daliyat al-Karmel, Israel, born in 1999, who merges a rich background in multidisciplinary art, design, and craftsmanship. After completing a preparatory program at Shenkar College in Tel Aviv, she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of Haifa. Yara's art practice involves creating sculptures and abstract drawings that symbolize organic movements, delving into a profound exploration of the biological and psychological aspects of human nature, as well as the deep connections between the natural world and spirituality.
Beyond her personal artistic endeavors, Yara runs an art studio where she teaches and inspires both children and adults through workshops in art and macrame. She also works as a guide at the Haifa Museums, where she shares her passion for art and culture with diverse audiences, enriching her own practice through constant dialogue and engagement with viewers. In addition, she supports a child with autism, which has deepened her understanding of human relationships and patience, and she creates art with him to help him express himself.
Her recent role as an environmental quality instructor reflects her commitment to integrating art and nature, promoting sustainability, and fostering a deeper connection to the environment, ultimately driving positive change in how we interact with the world.

Artist Statement

Yara Basis seeks to uncover truth by exploring the intricate relationships between humans and nature, and the profound connections that bind them. She believes that biophilia—the innate human affinity for nature—is an integral part of our existence, serving as both inspiration and a source of healing.

The tree is a central motif in her work, representing a living nervous system, the deep connections between thoughts and emotions, and their ongoing influence on shaping personality, identity, and behavior. In her creations, trees transform into lines and threads, symbolizing the journeys and experiences that shape our lives. She creates organic forms that express the impact of thoughts and emotions on who we are and the changes we undergo.

Yara views life through a biological and natural lens She believes in self-reflection and self-awareness, She invites viewers to embark on a journey of growth and connection, evoking contemplation on life, society, and the environment. Her work encourages a deeper understanding of the interactions between nature and our physical actions, capturing the dynamic tension between opposing forces and the pursuit of balance and harmony.

One of her goals is to instill a sense of belonging in viewers and to emphasize the importance of fundamental values and emotional well-being over material pursuits. She advocates for positive thinking and a profound connection to ourselves and others. Through her art, she aims to reveal the complexities of life while focusing on the beauty inherent in organic forms. She strives to convey a message of connection, love, and growth, where each creation serves as an invitation to an inner journey, discovering ourselves, our identity, and the world around us in a profound and meaningful way.
